I am currently doing exploratory research on a variety of macroeconomic topics. However, my key interest in digital currencies, particularly Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDCs) issued on the balance sheets of central banks. The rise of cryptocurrencies in the past decade has created interest in this government-controlled alternative, so it is a relatively underexplored topic in research.

The growing popularity of cryptocurrencies as a private method of transaction clearing, without the need for an intermediary, may have significant implications for financial stability and monetary policy in the long term. Therefore, central banks across the world have been forced to consider their implication and to provide their own alternative to modern cryptocurrencies. This thesis will deal explore the demand and supply side conditions for the implementation of a Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) in CEE countries and whether the benefits of implementation would outweigh the costs.
