15.05.2023 - CFA Scholarships 2023

The Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Institute offers Awareness Scholarships granted to students interested in taking the CFA exams. The new application deadline is on June 30, 2023. Students will have a year to use their scholarship and may choose the exam sitting that suits them in that period.

The scholarship reduces the CFA Program enrollment and examination registration fee to US$350. Find more information about the CFA Institute University Affiliation Program at the IES website and CFA website. Full-time Charles University students at the Bachelor, Master, or Doctoral level are eligible for the scholarship. We are pleased that the number of scholarships granted to Charles University has significantly increased since 2019 and therefore more students will be able to benefit from the scholarship than before.

Include your CV, the transcript of records from all university programs studied and a motivation letter explaining how you intend to benefit from the CFA examination and why you should be selected for the scholarship. 03.12.2019 - Deloitte Guest Lecture

Experts from Deloitte will offer a guest lecture on the cost of capital estimation. The lecture will take place on Monday, December 9, between 15:30 - 17:30 in room 109.

Our guest speakers will discuss the challenges of estimating the cost of capital. They will also discuss a practical case of estimating the cost of capital of a local company. Recent economic development creates numerous puzzles that must be addressed in the process of cost of capital estimation. Should today’s high stock market valuations be reflected in the expectations of long-term returns? How should historical returns be aggregated? Should medium-sized local companies pay a premium for their limited liquidity? The guest speaker (IES alumni) will offer their viewpoints on these questions and they will discuss reasons for why different experts may reach various conclusions.

Research Seminar "The Effect of Regulatory Harmonization on Cross-border Labor Migration: Evidence from the Accounting Profession" by Ulf Brüggemann, Humboldt University of Berlin, will take place on Tuesday, 11 October 2016, at 5 p.m. in Opletalova 26, room 105. "The paper examines whether international regulatory harmonization increases cross-border labor migration. We analyze European Union (EU) initiatives that harmonized accounting and auditing standards. We find that international labor migration in the accounting profession increases significantly relative to other professions. The findings illustrate that diversity in rules constitutes an economic barrier to cross-border labor mobility and, more specifically, that accounting harmonization can have a meaningful effect on cross-border migration." The EAA has repeatedly expressed its support of doctoral education in accounting within Europe. As part of an effort towards this goal, WHU – Otto Beisheim School of Management, is currently planning to initiate a four-day Doctoral Summer Program in Accounting, to be held for the first time in mid-July at WHU in Vallendar in Germany. Vallendar is located conveniently between Cologne and Frankfurt, near Koblenz, on the Rhine river. Teaching faculty will include Prof. Edward J.
