Efficiency and Employment in Small and Medium-size Enterprises: Comparison with the Corporate Sector (2008-2010)

Principal investigator: Mgr. Eva Michalíková
Collaborators: doc. Ing. Vladimír Benáček CSc.
Description: The objective of this project is to analyse the conditions of efficiency and employment in Czech small and medium-sized enterprises. Their estimated behavioural characteristics and factors of development will be compared with estimates for large corporations. Because the general theoretical relationship between efficiency and employment is ambiguous, we will conduct the research at the level of enterprise clusters and data by industries. The characteristics of decision-making of entrepreneurs will be related to comparative advantages, expected sales, profits and the productivities of capital and labour. We will test the hypothesis whether the significance of mentioned factors varies with the size of enterprises, as was discussed in international studies. The other factors of our analysis will include the dynamics of wages and the role of social and economic institutions, which are relevant for the social and economic policy-making.
