Description: | The main objective of the project is to summarize basic elements of the microeconomic theory of an educational institution as a firm, consumers' behaviour on the market of educational services and analyze the educational sector as an industry. Education is considered to be a mix of public and private good. Educational institution is considered to be a non-profit (public) firm. The microeconomic model of a market of educational services will be used to analyze different forms of financing of education and responses of the educational services market to the financing patterns. Different forms of financing, such as educational bonuses, direct state subsidies, mixed private and public financing including sponsoring are to be considered and analyzed. A special emphasis will be made on the sector of higher education. A part of the research agenda will be the economics of sponsoring. Methods of evaluation of research performance of universities as a tool for differentiation of educational institutions will be investigated and evaluated. As an applied output of research an econometric model of an educational institution will be developed and tested (on the basis of data from Charles University) and used for simulations and evaluations of university economics. Research outputs will be published in refereed journals and presented at research workshops and conferences. Ph.D. students of economics will be involved into the project. |
