Submision - Application of Synthetic Control Method to Various Economic Policy Interventions

Principal investigator: Matěj Opatrný MSc.
Collaborators: Mgr. Václav Brož
doc. PhDr. Tomáš Havránek Ph.D.
Description: The focus of this project is twofold. First, we aim to apply the Synthetic Control Method (SCM) on various economic policy interventions. Specifically, we will analyse 1) the impact of agricultural subsidies on the farm production in the Czech Republic after the accession of the European Union (EU) in 2004, 2) the impact of the Brexit referendum on several Czech macroeconomic indicators, and 3) the impact of two hikes by the European Central Bank (ECB) in 2011 on macroeconomic indicators of selected eurozone countries. Second, this project aims to deliver methodological improvements to the SCM, such as the implementation of confidence intervals as one of the robustness checks of the SCM. We plan to finish first two articles in the year 2019/2020 and the last one in the year 2020/2021.
