Abstract: The first part of the thesis presents franchising as a specific kind of entrepreneurship, respectively as a creation of a business chain. The advantages and disadvantages of this way of cooperation are compared with the casual type of entrepreneurship. Furthermore, the Czech market of franchises is introduced, as well as the franchisors and their segmentation.
The goal of the practical part of the text is to verify or deny the validity of one of the main motivations of franchisor for providing a licence, that is the expectation of increased efficiency of the branch. This analysis is based on the data about the operation of the McDonald´s company in the Czech Republic. It is ideal for this purpose, since part of its restaurants is run by the company itself and part is owned and run by the franchisees therefore these two groups can be easily compared.
