Abstract: The topic of this bachelor thesis is the life and work of the most remarkable Slovak economist Imrich Karvaš. The basic intention is to remind and to introduce his activities and contribution to the Slovak economy during the first half of his life and also to point out his unfavourable destiny during the second one. The first part specialises in both professional and personal parts of his life. The second part parses his publication The French inflation and findings for the monetary theory resulting from it. His attitudes and observations from the French inflation are summarised in detail there. The third part deals with his purely theoretical work The issue of time in the economic theory. The final part of the thesis describes the most interesting period of his life. The attention is focused on his work in the office as the governor of the Slovak national bank during the Second World War.
