Examination of the impact of teacher's gender, age and experience on student achievement

Abstrakt: | The effectiveness of transferring knowledge to students is one of the key aspects of teacher quality. It is influenced by many factors, among others, by gender match. Even though the gender match itself has been recently a topic of many studies, little is known about the impact of other teacher characteristics on it. In this thesis, we extend the gender match theory by examining whether teacher experience and age influence the effect of gender match on student achievement in the Czech Republic, using the dataset from TIMSS 2007. We do not find any effect of experience on gender match. However, although small, we do find a significant positive effect of young female teachers on girls' achievement. |
