Abstract: Abstract in English Bachelor thesis on the European monetary union and problems of the Slovak republic with adjustment consists of four main parts related to European monetary union. The first part represents a review of the history of the monetary union in Europe as well as a detailed insight on the European central bank. The following part stresses the theory of optimum currency areas and possibility of the appearance of an asymmetric shock in Slovakia. The third chapter gives the opportunity learn the status of the Slovak economics in fulfilling the Maastricht convergence criteria and its successes in a real economic sphere. The last part is dedicated to predictions of the development and progress of convergence indicators in Slovakia for the next two years.
