Abstract: Bachelor thesis on the National bank of Slovakia (NBS) in years 1993 – 2004 consists of five main parts. The introduction is a brief summary and description of the basic terms from central banking and monetary policy. In the second part, I try to look at NBS from the institutional point of view, to describe its main functions, organisational structure, legislative framework concerning NBS, its legislative competencies and in the conclusion of this part I try to analyse the independence of NBS. In following two chapters I analyse the monetary development in Slovak republic in years 1993 – 1999 and 2000 – 2004 respectively, and the role that NBS played here, especially the goals it set and the outcomes it reached. In the conclusion I look once more at the monetary policy transparency in Slovak republic and I try to outline very briefly the current and the future monetary development in Slovak republic
