Abstract: | The main purpose of this bachelor´s work is to describe economic development of Croatia as an independent and sovereign state. First chapter includes basic information and data about Croatia and short history including the era when Croatia was a member of former Yugoslavia. Next chapter describes the years after Yugoslavia´s decomposition when Croatia had to fight for its liberty and independency. War had negative impact on Croatia´s economy. In this chapter there is also comparison with other East European countries in economic transition in that time. Next part concerns postwar development indicating main economic indicators and its progress until 2000. Finally there is a brief summary of Croatia´s economic development from 2000 until present time. Conclusion could be summarized in few phrases. Croatia is a free-market based economy, main macroeconomic indicators point to relative stability. Bank sector is consolidated. Croatia opened its foreign trade and is a member of WTO. It has all prerequisites to become a future member of EU. But there still exist a lot of problems and reforms are needed, especially in judiciary and education sectors. |
