Current work:
Commercial vs. cooperative banking in the Czech Repubilc

Dissertation topic:
Performance of credit unions in the Czech Republic and other new EU member states

Disertation abstract:
Credit unions have served as alternative financial institutions to commercial banks in the Czech lands since the second half of the 19th century. The upswing of credit unions in our territory was stopped by the Second World War and credit unions were consequently abolished. Current rebirth of cooperative banking in the Czech Republic is burdened with numerous scandals. Aim of this work is to compare newly founded Czech institutions with its peers from other Eastern European nations in terms of profitability and riskiness.
