02/03/2023 - Apply to prg.ai Minor by 21 March

Launched in 2019, prg.ai Minor is designed for tech-savvy and motivated students who aim for in-depth interdisciplinary understanding of artificial intelligence and practical skills to apply it in various areas of interest.

Apart from continuously updated courses offered by some of the best teachers from two top Prague universities, participants get ample opportunity to learn from and network with fellow students and key academic and industry players of the Prague AI ecosystem. The programme also incentivises teachers to build tight collaborations across faculties and to improve and scale up their courses.

To successfully complete prg.ai Minor, you are required to:

  • Apply by 21st March 2023 and be accepted.
  • Choose 4 out of 6 offered thematic blocks (CoreML and CoreSYMB are compulsory).
  • Pass at least one course of your choice in each of the 4 blocks. The selected courses must come from 3 out of 4 participating faculties.
  • Provide a confirmation of successful completion of your regular degree including a confirmation of passing prg.ai Minor courses.

 

16/09/2019 - Data Science with R extended

Due to high demand and interest in data science, we are opening two data science courses in the coming academic year - Data Science with R I(JEM221) and Data Science with R II (JEM220). In DSwR I (winter), special focus will be put on understanding of basic practical programming in R, covering model evaluation, memorization methods, advanced regression techniques, and training variance reduction. In DSwR II (summer), more advanced topics such as clustering, text mining, support vector machines, neural networks, and networks will be covered.

13/09/2019 - prg.ai opens its Minor TECH program

prg.ai Minor has just launched its pilot program bringing together the best AI courses from the Czech Technical University and Charles University into a structured program. For this first year, the capacity is limited so, if you are interested, check the information in the link above and enroll ASAP. If you do enroll, please also let me know at LK@fsv.cuni.cz (for statistical purposes).

09/03/2018 - Golden Courses for Winter Semester 2017/2018

Golden Courses for the Winter Semester 2017/2018 have been announced during the Academic Senate meeting on 6 March 2018. Awarded courses for IES are:

  • NMMA701 Matematika 1 (Spurný, Honzík, Peša, Rondoš, Skříšovský)
  • JEM181 Data Science with R (Krištoufek, Herman)

13/09/2017 - JEM181 Data Science with R

Please note that there are two parallel classes of JEM181 Data Science with R. Due to possible collisions with mandatory courses, the afternoon session (Mondays, 12:30 - 15:30) is reserved for the 1st year masters students and the morning session (Mondays, 8:00 - 11:00) for the others. Please stick to it during the coming enrollment so that we avoid complications during potential swaps. Thank you.

26/09/2016 - JEM181 Data Science with R on Thursdays as well

Due to high demand, we have added a new parallel class (lectures and seminars) to JEM181 Data Science with R which will be held on Thursdays. It is already possible to enroll in SIS.

13/04/2014 - Invitation to a talk of Prof. Rita D'Ecclesia

Prof. Rita D'Ecclesia of University of Rome "La Sapienza", a current Chair of The European Working Group for Commodities and Financial Modelling, is giving a lecture on "Understading recent crude oil dynamics" as a part of the doctoral seminar Nonlinear Dynamic Economic Systems: Theory and Applications (NDES) at UTIA (www.utia.cz), room #3 on Thursday 17.4.2014 starting from 4PM. All Ph.D. students as well as other interested students or faculty members are sincerely invited.

IES has acquired full 10 mandates out of 20 in the elections to the Academic Senate of the Faculty. Thank you for the support, it is highly appreciated! 

19/11/2013 - Support IES in the upcoming Senate elections

Between 20.11. and 22.11.2013, the elections to the Academic senate of the Faculty will be taking place at IES. IES has 5 candidates for the pedagogical chamber (Cervinka, Hollmannova, Koubek, Kristoufek, Kukacka) and 5 candidates for the student chamber (Dockal, Dutton, Losenicky, Malek, Nedved). Each of you has 5 votes for the pedagogical and 5 votes for the student chamber. A sufficient representation of IES in the Senate is crucial. Please, come, vote and support IES.

29/10/2013 - University Trading Challenge 2013-2014

IES has been invited to participate in University Trading Challenge 2013-2014. Teams of 3-5 students will compete in investing on-line, see the details here. Only one team for the whole Institute is allowed to participate. If you are interested, please send a list of team members together with an appointed team leader to kristoufek@ies-prague.org. Attach also (PDF) transcripts from SIS. Selection will be made on a basis of Mathematics I + II averages. Note that the team members must be at least the second year students born after the 31st December 1985. The deadline for the team proposals is on 8.11.2013.

11/02/2013 - JEB109 Econometrics I - seminars

Dear students,

JEB109 Econometrics I seminars are going to be led by Ladislav Kristoufek - S1 (Tuesdays 11:00-12:20) & S2 (Tuesdays 12:30-13:50) - and Boril Sopov - S3 (Tuesdays 14:00-15:20) & S4 (Tuesdays 15:30-16:50). The seminars begin in the second week of the semester (week starting on 25.2.2013).

14/05/2012 - JEB109 Econometrics I - S1 and S4 cancelled tomorrow

Due to my illness, seminars S1 and S4 (Kristoufek) are cancelled tomorrow (Tuesday 15th May). All necessary topics will be covered during the extra seminars next week. I apologize for any inconvenience.
