Description: The project is focused on a complex analysis of interactions between real exchange rate (RER) misalignments (under-/overvaluation), trends in international competitiveness, and economic growth. The topic was inspired by the long-term interest of the team leader and debate following studies focusing on the impact of exchange rate misalignments on GDP growth and on the non-price competitiveness factors. The project merges and extends both streams of research and shifts the attention to the institutional channel (causal mechanism behind the competitiveness-growth relationship) and also to the impacts of the results for the concepts of equilibrium exchange rates. In case of competitiveness the project focuses primarily on its usually neglected non-price component. Based on our preliminary results authors believe that they are able to contribute to further improvements of methodology of measurement of (non)price competitiveness derived from Benkovskis and Wőrz (2013), but also further refine Rodrik’s original conclusions and policy recommendations.
