Abstract: Since the initiation of major economic reform in 1978 the Chinese economic growth has been more than impressive and it is the biggest nation in the world making transition from closed economy to the market oriented economy. Therefore, this paper discusses the major steps made in the pace of the reform in the first 2 decades related to the key economic sectors, namely agricultural, industrial and foreign trade sector along with the level of the sectoral development and the its contribution to the economic growth of China.
