Abstract: Bachelor thesis „European market in services and its importance for the Czech Republic” deals with historical development of the internal market of the European Union and especially the market in services. The thesis addresses a proposal for a directive for liberalization of the market in services that was presented to the European Commission by its former Commissioner Frits Bolkestein in the year 2004. The content of the directive is closely analyzed and remarks of the member stats and unions operating within the European Union are mentioned. Thereinafter the approved directive from the year 2006 is discussed and its impacts on providers of crossborder services are analyzed.

The theses also analyzes the market in services in the economy of the Czech Republic and the role of services in employment and foreign trade. Besides looking at the services in general, the thesis is also concerned with the market in services in information technology.

At the end a case study about a Czech software company is presented. The company is well established in the Czech economy and it should profit from the liberalization in the market in services in the European Union. The case study contains an example of development of a software product after the liberalization and the possibilities of using services of foreign service providers in the development process that the company will have in contrary to the present situation.
