||The numbers of graduates from Czech universities have seen a steady increase over the past decades. This paper examines how well these graduates are prepared for their entry to the labor market. As the possession of a university diploma becomes rather common, more and more attention is paid to the skills acquired during the studies. Consequently, these skills play a vital role in finding a good job. Seeing contemporary trends in the labor market, the competencies required from graduates of economic programs include knowledge of analytical and statistical software. While theoretical knowledge is still indispensable, the ability to apply these theories to real-world tasks using modern statistical software gives students significant competitive advantage. This paper is devoted to the use of statistical software in university courses and the applicability of the attained skills in practice. The aim of this paper is to point out that students are insufficiently equipped with the necessary skills, and subsequently fail to meet the requirements of this specific area of the labor market.
