This paper examines functioning of benedictine monasteries and life of benedictine monks from the perspective of Economics of Happiness. Our primary focus is on identification of those factors and aspects which can be considered to be major determinants of subjective well-being of benedictines. We will try to show that the key determinants consist in social interactions between monks, monastic corporate governance, their work ethic and intrinsic motivation and also in their voluntary work. We will try to find empirical support in the results of happiness research in Economics. Finally, we will sketch some hypotheses about the influence of absence of family life and marriage on subjective well-being of monks |
