Determinants of Football Players’ Market Value in the Czech Football League

| Abstrakt: | This thesis extends research on determinants of football players’ market values by analysing data from the Czech football league. These determinants have been studied in the biggest European leagues but smaller competitions have so far been overlooked. This thesis further extends the research by including participation and performance of young players in national youth teams and European youth competitions. Data were collected over the course of three transfer periods and their analysis shows positive and significant effects of performance on players’ market values. Moreover, the results indicate a large imbalance between market values of players of the best teams and the others. The estimation also shows positive effect of scoring in international and European matches of youth teams. To the best of our knowledge, this factor has not been studied yet. The results also hold when the number of matches played are used instead of number of minutes and when outliers are removed from the dataset. |
