Abstrakt: | In order to determine the effect of the COVID-19 crisis on academic performance of students of the Faculty of Social Sciences at Charles University, unbalanced panel of over 5000 students ranging from Winter 2016 to Summer 2020 is analyzed using panel data estimation methods and binary dependent variable models. The estimated effect of COVID-19 on GPA is negative, i. e. improved GPA, for both bachelor’s and master’s students. On average, bachelor’s students seem to be affected more severely than master’s students. The magnitude of the effect varies substantially across institutes of the faculty, especially when considering master’s students. The probability of 3rd year bachelor’s or 2nd year master’s graduating in the academic year 2020/21 is significantly lower than when compared to the same-grade students of 2018/19. When considering students of 2019/20, no significant difference in probability of graduating was found. |
