Abstract: The objective of the paper is to analyse the health reform in Slovakia. In the first part, I have paid attention to the history of financing the health care system in Slovakia and highlighted the current trends within the health care. The second part describes the situation in Slovak health care system before the reform. The main concern is to show the system problems and the incapability of the pre-reform system to operate in a long-term perspective. In the third part, I have analysed the reform itself in a manner that the attention is paid to the key points in order to show how these key points are solving the problems of health care system outlined in previous chapter. In fourth part, I have tried to make a prognosis on the impact of the reform upon the main subjects of the health care system such as patients, hospitals, doctors and health insurance companies. In the concluding part, I have evaluated the whole reform and outlined potential difficulties in the future.
