Abstract: |
Based on a rather restricted analysis of post-war development of French economy and society, this paper describes some essential features of the French welfare state and the French system of social security. As the unemployment rate is one of the main problems of the French economy we also describe on a macroeconomic level the relationship between economic growth and unemployment rate based on the Okun’s Law. It pays great attention to growth and unemployment rate since the late 70’s and presents an ARMA model for analysis of the Okun’s Law in the French economy. Both analyses, the French social policy and the technical analysis, underline the importance of the economic growth for dealing with the unemployment rate, which seems to be considerable challenge for the future sustainable development of the French welfare state. |
