Abstract: This study is concerned with the impacts that a global trade liberalization in agriculture might bring to developing countries. We firstly discuss the role of the agricultural sector for the development of these countries and the negative effects that protectionist policies cause. This paper concludes that the level of protectionism in agriculture is still high and so there is huge scope for further trade liberalization. To see the impacts of this process on developing countries we concentrate on three questions. Firstly, what would be the gains for developing countries as a whole. Secondly, how are different countries within the group going to be affected - are there any countries to lose from the liberalization? And finally, how are the gains going to be distributed within the developing country.
