Abstract: The paper deals with the issue of support for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the Czech Republic. In the first part the description of this economic sector and its support system can be found, especially various support instruments are mentioned there.
The second part of this thesis is devoted to the national innovative policy. There is discussed the link of this policy with the SMEs support system. Attention is paid mainly to venture capital as the missing support instrument in the Czech Republic. Based on the foreign models, it tries to introduce such innovative system which would satisfy modern international trends. The Czech-Moravian Guarantee and Development Bank is then placed in the centre of this model. Formation of such model should help to push Czech economy among the world leading knowledge economies.
